The CDC didn’t publish it’s guidelines. Trump shelved them and the CDC was told they would never see the light of day; so someone leaked their existence, and the administration reluctantly released 5 or 6 pages to the press.
There are still not any detailed, uniform, science-based recommendations as to how to safely re-open your business and run it safely in the midst of a pandemic. There is not even a whiff of any actual enforceable regulations.
Thus, everyone is winging it, and lock-step Republican governors like Abbott will do what Trump wants, not what is safe or sensible for the short, medium or long-term health of their constituents…or the economy.
Even more insane, just look at the criteria laid out on the official White House website for re-opening. No state is anywhere close to meeting any of these criteria, let alone all of them.
and Trump has been taking the malaria medicine for a couple of weeks. Karma has another shot.
Trump is now claiming that he’s been taking hydroxychloroquine for a week.
“I happen to be taking it,” Trump said during a roundtable event at the White House. “A lot of good things have come out. You’d be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the front-line workers. Before you catch it. The front-line workers, many, many are taking it.”
He added: “I’m taking it, hydroxychloroquine. Right now, yeah. Couple of weeks ago, I started taking it. Cause I think it’s good, I’ve heard a lot of good stories.”
Trump also said that he is taking zinc, and that he has taken an initial dose of azithromycin, or Z-Pak.
I have so many questions:
- Why? Are you infected?
- If not infected, are you worried about getting infected?
- If you’re worried about being infected, what good does a treatment for the disease do?
- If you’re worried about getting infected, doesn’t that mean it’s not safe even to occupy an office where everyone is tested every day?
- Did a doctor prescribe this for you?
- What dosage?
- What has it done for you?
- Prove that this isn’t just a ridiculous, self-serving lie
- Why don’t you wear a mask you fucking lunatic?
There is a much-higher-than-zero chance that Trump only thinks he is taking the drug, and his doctors are giving him a sugar pill.

For clarification, the criteria you linked to (14-day declining case totals, etc.) is what I was referencing, and I apologize for not being more clear. I was assuming that initial criteria for reopening was developed by the CDC. And, yes, no state is anywhere close to meeting it, but they are still reopening, anyway. That infuriates me. It also infuriates me that many people are refusing to wear masks in public.

Ah, got it. The CDC developed detailed plans on how to open various types of businesses, from restaurants to retail stores and everything in between. Cleaning plans and schedules; customer spacing; PPE for staff and on and on. That would be insanely useful but it is still under Trump’s double-secret probation because he doesn’t want us to think that there’s anything stopping “the country” re-opening.

I remember reading that. Around the same time, Arizona’s Republican Governor, Doug Ducey, stopped the COVID-19 work of the state’s public health workers when their reports showed that the state was reopening too early.
Trump is a narcissistic, petulant child that only cares about his reelection chances than doing what is best for the American people and the long-term health of the U.S. economy.

Right? Something is working so why not wear some cloth over your face just in case. In Seoul we have around 10 million people just in the city limits with only 4 deaths. If you add the greater metropolitan area with Gyeongi province and Incheon you get a population of close to 22 million. Out of 22 million we’ve had 20 deaths. Just for fun check out the immense spider web of the Seoul metropolitan subway map and see how easy it is for those 22 million people to pretty much go anywhere. Everyone on the train this morning had on a mask including this American.

It’s going to be really embarrassing when countries ban travel from the US while the rest of the world can travel freely. Embarrassing, and terrible for business, education and life (for Americans).
I think the Trump tale about taking the malaria medicine and about his doctor’s saying “if you want to” is a lie. If not, he is dumber than we thought. Wonder how many lemmings will start taking it because he says he is?
