Correa Re-Signing: Will He or Won't He?

I know that money trumps all and can heal a lot of wounds.

I just don’t know how a guy can listen to that venom directed at him and his “brothers” ( his word) for 2 years and then join those teams and embrace those fans.

You are living in a dream world. He has absolutely zero incentive to do anything like that, and every incentive not to.

If NYY fans on Twitter are any indication, they are already assuming he’s getting fitted for pinstripes. Besides, professional athletes tend to take these sorts of things a lot less personally than fans do.

I keep hearing that 10 years is now the floor.

I still have not heard any teams offer that.

In fact, I have heard teams actively avoiding it ( except the frigging Rangers)

My idea of the 2 year deal is based on no teams making him 10 year offers, except possibly the Dodgers and Yankees.

Also, I was not talking about the Yankee ( and Dodger) Fans not accepting him - of course they would love him. How can he embrace them though?

An obscene amount of money would help with that.

I think the Yankees have sat back so as not to drive up the market and basically just told Carlos to visit them last. Accept and move on like I did years ago.

Correa is running out of suitors and therefore his leverage is dwindling. He should have signed early and took any offer that was $300M, which he probably got, but asked for more. With the Tigers about to sign Baez, who is left that needs a shortstop who could pay big money? The Yankees and Cards? If I’m either one of those, I’m not offering anything near $300 to Correa now. He’s overplayed his hand. I’m offering him 10 @ $270 or something like 7 or 8 @ $210M-$240M.

I wonder what Correa would say if Houston came back with an offer of 5 @ $175? With a $35/yr AAV he could still satisfy his ego and say he got the higher AAV of this years’ ss class.

NYY reportedly after K-F from Rangers

Rosenthal attempts to answer the question “Where will Correa sign?” – but, like the conversation here, doesn’t really come up with a good obvious answer:

I just looked at Fangraphs steamer projections after transactions to date.

Based on WAR because it’s quick and easy.

If the Seager deal sets the floor for Correa at 10 for $350, does the Baez deal set the ceiling for Story at 6 for $140?

On the Locked on Astros podcast last night, they said there was a rumor going around NY area that Correa had agreed to a 10yr/$375mil deal but no team was given.

Also they were very insistent that there were no formal reports or sources.

So it basically amounts to nothing.

We often mention the tax implications of playing in some cities, and the associated benefit of playing in Texas. Article today about the Seager deal, estimating that the Dodgers would have needed to offer $76MM more ($401MM) to match the take home pay. I don’t know how much, if any, such figures into a player like Correa, but it has to figure into it some, doesn’t it?

Apparently a done deal. 6/$140MM

In the interview with the Puerto Rican radio station I referred to a while back they discuss the differing tax implications of one team versus another, and it is evident that this is a point that does not evade Carlos’ notice.

I don’t see how the Rangers didn’t reach out with a offer similar to the one they signed Seager to, unless Correa had advised them he wasn’t interested in playing for them

If true, $32mm AAV and only five years is not gonna get it done.

Ex Astros minor league hitting coach Dillon Lawson was promoted to major league hitting coach by the Yankees. He had been serving as their minor league hitting coordinator for the last 3 seasons after being hired away from the Astros.

So the NY Post reports the news of Lawson’s promotion by saying that Lawson was Correa’s hitting coach in the minors. It then goes on to suggest that perhaps that might be a hook to entice Correa to sign with the Bronx Bombers.

The NY Post sucks of course and they’ve gotten the facts wrong in this case. Lawson had two separate stints as a hitting coach in the Astros minors in 2016 and again in 2018 and never coached Correa.

May Kylo grow up to be an Astros fan.
