Correa Re-Signing: Will He or Won't He?

Money is never going to be an issue for the Yankees. Ever.

One wild card in this is the new CBA and any changes to the luxury tax threshold and/or a salary floor. Hard to speculate right now on teams that may be on the bubble.

Money isn’t an issue for the Yankees, but the younger Steinbrenner has been very wary of luxury tax penalties in the last few seasons.

And those could change with the next CBA.

I see that as of today the WAR leader in MLB with 5.8 is Carlos Correa. Actually, he’s tied with
Wade Fucking Miley. Marcus Semien, is at 5.7 and I believe a FA also. Tatis Jr at 5.4

Semien is a FA, yes

Good old Wade Miley, MLB WAR leader, just like I always predicted.

May hint at the value of that metric.

Can he play shortstop?

I get the joke but he has gone 137 innings at a 2.88 ERA. Just an absolute out of nowhere season.

Joke?

BP just published a fun writeup of Miley’s freak season. There’s a lot of stat stuff that’s greek to me, but the core analysis on his pitch mix and location is interesting.

Miley was 13-4 with a 3.06 era before his September implosion with Houston in 2019. I’m not sure his season is out of nowhere. I think it’s a matter of him being healthy and his mind is right. But we aren’t to September just yet so we’ll see what his numbers look like at the end of the season.

Pena with 3 homers last night (one inside the park). That’s 6 homers in his last 7 games. I know it’s AAA, but looks like this kid can hit. That a bonus considering all I’d heard since drafting him was that he was a legit SS in the field.

I’d love to resign Correa, but if the Good Guys can’t get that done good to know we have a decent fallback option…not to mention that frees up Leon to help in the OF either next season or maybe the season after that as Brantley again becomes a free agent.

So, who are you trading to make room for Leon next season?

No one…I’m not wishing for them to come but injuries do happen from time to time.

Totally unrealistic.

Brantley, Meyers, McCormick, Tucker, now Siri also. Alvarez in LF at times. You want to add Leon to the OF next season?

What’s Leon’s service time situation?

So if Tucker and McCormick go down via injury in June, July or August next season, you don’t think Leon could be a potential call up?

Question Jim: If those in the organization that matter believe Pena is legit and can be our starting SS starting next season then where do you believe Leon to be more valuable to the big club? In the IF or the OF?
