Money is never going to be an issue for the Yankees. Ever.
One wild card in this is the new CBA and any changes to the luxury tax threshold and/or a salary floor. Hard to speculate right now on teams that may be on the bubble.
I see that as of today the WAR leader in MLB with 5.8 is Carlos Correa. Actually, he’s tied with
Wade Fucking Miley. Marcus Semien, is at 5.7 and I believe a FA also. Tatis Jr at 5.4
BP just published a fun writeup of Miley’s freak season. There’s a lot of stat stuff that’s greek to me, but the core analysis on his pitch mix and location is interesting.
Miley was 13-4 with a 3.06 era before his September implosion with Houston in 2019. I’m not sure his season is out of nowhere. I think it’s a matter of him being healthy and his mind is right. But we aren’t to September just yet so we’ll see what his numbers look like at the end of the season.
Pena with 3 homers last night (one inside the park). That’s 6 homers in his last 7 games. I know it’s AAA, but looks like this kid can hit. That a bonus considering all I’d heard since drafting him was that he was a legit SS in the field.
I’d love to resign Correa, but if the Good Guys can’t get that done good to know we have a decent fallback option…not to mention that frees up Leon to help in the OF either next season or maybe the season after that as Brantley again becomes a free agent.
Question Jim: If those in the organization that matter believe Pena is legit and can be our starting SS starting next season then where do you believe Leon to be more valuable to the big club? In the IF or the OF?
