That was an exciting championship game. The US has a nice young team that is getting better each time out. Scoreless until the 117th minute. Miles Robinson’s header off a perfect feed from Kellyn Acosta found the back of the net. USA USA USA!
It was back and forth from the very beginning. A very exciting match.
I was impressed with Hoppe. He is going to be good. Other teams will hate him.
And Acosta. He is not afraid to mix it up with people.
But 1-0 is sooooo booooooring….
It wasn’t an exhibition of technique, but it was an exciting and entertaining match. That was a great header to win it, pure desire to get on the end of the perfectly delivered cross.
Mexico was the better side, but the effort and desire (that word again) of the young US team was enough to overcome that. I was shocked at the sheer number of blocks put in by the US to stop crosses and shots, protecting their ‘keeper. Turner himself was up to the challenge too.
Given the stakes and the rivalry, the young referee did exceptionally well. The color man kept counting the foul calls, but that was on the players. He let it flow when he could and called what he had to. The fact that it didn’t turn into a blizzard of cards is a testament to his composure. Emphasizes how terrible the Premier League refs are; peacocks with whistles.
