College Hoops 2021

Gonzaga goes on the road and gets whooped by St. Mary’s (#23)

This was a fun day of hoops.

That was a kick in the mommy-daddy buttons seeing my alma mater get manhandled by boulder HS.
At least the Top 10 for the most part defecated in the sheets today so as to allay the sting.
Such is Collegiate Basketball…

Go BasketCats.

C’mon, AZ hasn’t done anything since Lute Olson was the coach.

And those were fun teams for several many years.

Dunno, Sean Miller had some solid Elite Eight UA teams. Damn Wisconsin and Ohio State ruined those Final Four trips.

As was said in detail above, 7 of the top 10 lost yesterday. Wow, what a day-an early glimpse of March Madness.

As Beard said after the narrow win v WVU, it is getting to “survive and advance” days. I learned something important at the end of my coaching career in 1997, and I wished then I had learned it earlier: any win is a good win. Do not nitpick wins and subject your players to a critical monologue about all the things they did wrong in a win. Learn from mistakes, of course, and have conversations later with those players about them, in private or with the whole team in a film study, but do NOT assemble the team immediately after a win and tell them all the mistakes they made. Enjoy the win, and do instructive coaching later.

As I said, I learned this during our playoff run in 1997 and wished then I had discovered this truth to improve my coaching earlier.

Fuck BU says the UT fans. No, fuck you says Baylor.

In Big XII play tonight:
Texas Tech follows their turnover palooza 69-66 loss against TCU Saturday with a narrow win at home tonight against Kansas State 73-68. Tech finishes the season with a perfect 18-0 home record. Tech’s last regular season game will be against Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Saturday.

Texas loses their last game ever in “The Drum” in very a tough game against Baylor 68-61. Texas’ next home game will be at the new Moody Center. The Longhorns finish the season at Kansas on Saturday.

The Big XII Tournament seeding will probably, but not necessarily, stay at Kansas #1, Baylor #2, Tech #3, and Texas is a lock for the #4 seed. Oklahoma State is excluded from this year’s tournament and West Virginia is hopeless, so the field is set with TCU, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Iowa State, although the rest of the seeding is still up in the air.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer Tatooine Crime Boss and his merry band of thugs.

Glad to see the Tech cheerleader back. We had him on suicide watch Sat.

Baylor is way more athletic than Texas, and they made their 3s in the second half. 15 more points from deep plus 6 more free throw points. Ramey missed a wide open shot from 2 feet at 54-56, and that was all she wrote.

Great game.

That game may have cost a chance at a #2 and could send them to a #4, so I was pretty grumpy.

I knew when he missed that, it wasn’t going to end well.

Same here. They got a fast break 3 right after too. Five point swing.

Just a game, Tex. They’ll play a whole bunch of them next year and the year after that too.

Oh, gee, Kansas lost at TCU tonight. You hate to see it.

Jim, I never realized you were so Zen. Win, lose, it’s all the same. The outcome of a game doesn’t matter.

This is how I feel about fishing. Fish, no fish, it’s all the same. Not really, but I say it anyway.

I did not say the outcome does not matter. I hate to lose. A player (and a coach and fans) have to learn losing is part of the game, however, and to not allow a loss to affect them or the team negatively. Do not dwell on a loss; bounce back, and be better next time.

Damn! Back-to-back top 10 victories. TCU probably just got their ticket punched to the Tournament.
