College Basketball '22-'23

From the experience of a former friend of mine - if the intervening officers have any report of hands to the throat, they are to immediately detain and the “impede breath circulation” is an automatic charge.

APD has had a long policy of: if we get called out on an abuse charge, someone is going to jail. They do not investigate; that is left to others. Someone called 911; someone is going to jail.

I know many here are rush to judgment types, but I want to remind everyone these are only allegations. I handled many cases like this during my career as an HR lawyer. Sometimes the allegations are true; sometimes they are lies made to hurt the other person. Only a thorough investigation can determine which it is.

I would say this to you no matter who the coach/school is. I hope they are not true, but if they are, he will and should be fired.

ETA: the post above is a great example of what I am talking about: “This POS should be fired now.” That asshole has already decided the case based on one piece of paper.

Roy would have to be in his 90’s now, wouldn’t he?

I’m not a law talking guy, but the emotional response to disturbing cases is the reason due process is so important.

Exactly. And as a criminal defense lawyer once reminded me, if we can’t trust the process dealing with the guilty, how can we trust it to deal with the innocent?

He died in May of ‘21 at age 89.
My old boss at my first aviation gig here in Austin used to manage and fly Roy’s light twin-engine plane (I got to fly it a couple of times which was cool).
The few times I met Mr. Minton were pleasant- he was a character.

There it is:

He will never fully recover from this - regardless of the outcome.

We’ll see.

A buddy and I went to the Rice@UT game Monday night. After watching what UT did to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, I didn’t have very high hopes for the Owls. I’m sure the Horns were distracted by the Beard developments, but the Owls held up to the Texas defensive pressure better than I thought they would, and managed to jiujitsu it into several backdoor layups. Combined with a couple of improbable 3-pointers, they actually had the lead at the half. The second half was back and forth, and Rice had a good look to win at the end of regulation but couldn’t hit the jumper from the corner. In OT UT’s superior talent finally won out. I was proud of the gritty effort from the Owls.

That was my first trip inside the Moody Center, and I was impressed. We were in section 106 on the side, and our seats were about baseline extended. It seemed like the court lighting was better than at the Erwin Center, and the students are definitely more of a presence. But it wouldn’t upset me if they dialed the sound system down a few db.

I bought my tickets through StubHub. $56/seat, which I can live with, but the $19/ticket in “service” fees is pretty ridiculous. Are any of the other ticket vendors any better, or is this just the normal state of affairs now?

Pretty standard.

And complete BS that they advertise a price without including those fixed fees.

I bought tickets to a show at the Moody Amphitheater a few months ago…tix were $45, Ticketmaster “service” charge was $47. I didn’t even care much about the band (My Morning Jacket, they are fun live though) I just wanted to see the people I was meeting there, or else it would have been a huge “fuck that”.

I think that’s an understatement.

If you think that UT team was anything like the good one, you are wrong. They were distracted and flat, missed free throws and turned the ball over, and played like crap a good bit of the time. I was impressed with Rice. They hit 9 threes and had a guy with 28 points. #15 (the big guy) could not do much but pass, but man, was he ever a wizard at passing.

UH is ice cold to start this game. Finally got an easy bucket.

Zags and Bama close in the 2nd half.

Zero for six to start the game.

Sasser may be getting it dialed in now.

Their pressure is reaping benefits now.
