Dunno. A UT recruiting website says the deal with someone is done. All of the negotiations are with agents, of course, so the coach can deny contact. I have not seen any rumors today.
I donāt put much stock into that press conference, much like Roy Williamsā response after KU lost in the championship years back (āI donāt give a shit about Carolina,ā and then he left for UNC a day or two later).
Schloss has a pretty perfect situation in College Station. Heās highly paid and has a great support structure in place, with commitments from the BMD to invest in the program. IMO A&M is well ahead of Texas right now in baseball, but itās a recent development.
With all of that said, Schloss and CDC have a good relationship from what I understand, and it sure sounds like thereās fire as well as smoke here. I donāt think weāll have to wait very long to find out.
A poster is saying on a Longhorn site the deal is done. The idea he would be better off financially at aTm than at UT is amusing.
Yeah, sometimes the coach doth protest too much. Donāt know if thatās the case here, and I have no inside information, just found the link I shared. I agree, weāll find out soon though.
Eric Nahlin at InsideTexas has been saying it was done since last night as well. I didnāt say he was better off at CS, I said he was highly paid. Pierce never seemed to galvanize the donors, but I donāt think that would continue to be the case if CDC pulled off a Schloss hire.
I heard that UT might be considering Tom Walter of Wake Forest.
Yeah, Gerry Hamilton was the pundit I was quoting. I never met Pierce, but his public persona seems very reserved.
ETA: you know for sure CDC wants a splash hire.
Austin media now saying Schloss.
Iāve heard about several āincidentsā (no specifics) involving Pierce getting into with players and staff, which did not endear him to a lot of people within the program.
Completely agree that CDC wants to make waves. Hell, his most recent hire was the Swimming and Diving coach that just won a national title.
Regardless, for Texas to compete in the SEC weāre going to need to see an influx of NIL cash to lure in the top talent thatās been going elsewhere the past few years.
The coach change will help that.
Yes, sir. And yep, even Kendall Rogers is saying, āIf I was a betting man, I like where Texas stands.ā
247 says it is done.
Nahlin as well. Fascinating.
I sure am curious about the backstory on this one. Is being CDCās buddy all there is to it?
At any rate, heās seems to be a great identifier of hires, and appears to let them do their job.
I hope he can fix the pitching.
Pierce was the pitching coach. Improvement already.
Yeah, I imagine that he sealed his fate when he dumped the pitching coach, took on that job himself, and then went on to have the worst overall pitching performance in several seasons.
It certainly sealed his fate in my mind. Not that that matters.
Athletic also reporting that Schlossnagle is the guy (fwiw).
Conversation tonight went like this:
Me: looks like UT hired Schlossnagle
Mrs Hawk: Isnāt he kinda old to be getting a new job?
Me: Heās five years younger than you are
Mrs Hawk: What? He sure looks a lot older than me
Me: Thatās right, baby, you donāt look a day older than when you wore the olā college sweater.
