College Baseball 2022

When did the final part of the finals go from continuing a double elimination tournament into a new three game series?

Don’t know the exact year, but it’s been this way for quite a while now.

2003

Man, I am out of it. Thanks.

Well, in fairness to you, we’re all dealing with a lot of shit right now.

Speak for yourself, dude. I’m good.

No candlesticks for you, then.

Ivan Melendez won the Golden Spikes award. First Horn ever to do so in its 45 year history.

List of previous winners look like a who’s who of future MLB stars: Bob Horner, Tim Wallach, Will Clark, Robin Ventura, Alex Gordon, Tim Lincecum, David Price, Buster Posey, Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper, Kris Bryant, among others.

He’s won 3 of the major college awards: Collegiate Baseball POY, Dick Howser Trophy and now the Golden Spikes. Baseball America POY is next, for the sweep.

Hell of a year. Pretty safe to say #17 will be the 6th number retired at UT.

That was quite the meltdown by OU in the bottom of the 8th. Congratulations to Ole Miss on their championship.

Big time crossup on the first WP.

I think I read he’s the first player ever to go from JUCO to Golden Spikes… Impressive.

Which is considered more prestigious, the Dick Houser or the Golden Spikes?

Never mind, I see the difference now.

$750K a year for pitching coaches in the SEC? Oooookay.

For those without a subscription, Johnson will be earning nearly double what the Twinkies were paying him ($400K).

Has not had any play here, but UT’s Pierce fired his pitching coach, and Tulo, after turning down USC, will leave to become a consultant. He wants to be a HC eventually. I have no respect for the former and am sorry about the latter.

I guess I understand why he did it, but leaving in the middle of a season rubs me the wrong way.

Was disappointed to hear Tulowitski isn’t coming back to UT. He was by all accounts great with the hitters and infielders. He turned down the head job at USC so it sounds like he just wants some time off. Horns need a new pitching coach too.

eta: guess I could edit this post to say “yeah, what Jim said”

The former being Pierce, or the pitching coach?

Former=Pierce’s firing Allen
Latter=Tulo’s leaving
