Agree, but we don’t know what the prognisis of Meyers’ shoulder was at the time either.
Myers’ projection? He was coming off of a serious injury. As you saw, he was not healthy yet even though he took up a spot on the active roster.
It’s irrelevant now, but Starling Marte would have represented a big upgrade over what the Astros got offensively out of their centerfielders in 2022. He hit .292/.347/.468 for an .815 OPS. Crane wasn’t wrong for having interest in him to offset the loss of Correa’s offense.
Correct, plus just bc a player is signed for multiple years doesn’t mean the team expects all of the years to be productive or worth the money. Sometimes clubs sign said player just for the first portion of the contract knowing that said player gives them a better chance to win now.
Maybe Marte would not have caught the ball Chas did in Game 5? Glad Chas was there.
Make no mistake, I’m very happy Chas was in centerfield for game 5 against the Phillies. All I was saying is Marte would have ended up representing a significant offensive upgrade over the course of the season.
The Astros won the World Series. I wouldn’t change a thing.
David, chill. My post was semi-serious, not a rebuttal of yours.
My point was more that assuming the facts of the argument are even accurate, its weird that the owner is pissed that the GM didn’t spend money, and that the GM was like “no lets just not spend this at all.” That’s very backward from what you typically think of.
I can see both sides of the Marte vs Meyers deal, especially not knowing what actual information the Astros had at that point about Meyers prognosis. I can see being positive about Meyers and I can see being negative about Marte plus the cost considering that Meyers is essentially “free” by comparison.
Please just sign Anthony Rizzo (parroting Jim R and others) - he’s a very good player and as a FA you don’t have to give anything up for him. Rizzo just had a great postseason with quality at-bats and production. This is fortune.
I thought Rizzo got a QO. If so, he would definitely cost more than just his contract.
D’oh I’m a dumbass.
I’m torn, bc I love Yuli, but Rizzo was about the only hitter that really worried me in the ALCS. He had great AB after great AB. On top of that his numbers might even improve with the shift going away. At the right number he’s probably worth the loss of a draft pick. Is there any way Yuli could serve (along with Dubon) as Diaz’s super utility replacement for one more season? I read where Bregman was quoted saying Yuli could still play SS in the majors at 38.
I would welcome Rizzo on the Astros, and it is not for me or for anyone else here to say the money/draft choice is not worth it. That is Crane’s and whoever else is helping him’s call.
I had the same idea about Yuli talking to Mark or to HH.
You misspelled Josh Bell
I like this idea and if you sign Rizzo, Yuli can play first against the southpaws.
I don’t want Rizzo. He thinks the Astros only won because they cheated. He said a lot of fucked up shit about it. Fuck that guy.
I’d rather sign guys like that, a tacit acknowledgment from them that they were full of shit, and forgive them their trespasses as they lead us to another World Series. Relatedly I want Correa to sign with NYY or LAD so those fans have to cheer for the cheater they hated so much.
Then he would just be a fucking shit sucking lying hypocrite. No thank you. He deserves less. Fuck Rizzo, he is a fucktard and a cocksucker. A Yankee/Cub worthless piece of crap.
Rizzo would be a worse addition than Carlos Gomez.
