The Hooks added a new player on April 23rd.
The Astros acquired Rowdey Jordan from the Mets (no return mentioned). Jordan was drafted in the 11th round by the Mets out of Miss. St. Jordan has spent time in the Eastern League (AA) in each of the last four seasons. During his time in the minors, he has played all three outfield positions, 2nd and 3rd. In his first 11 games with the Hooks - he has only played 2nd.
He is a switch hitting glove first guy. But right now, he is hitting as well as anyone else on the Hooks. In just 11 games, he his tied for the team lead in HR and tied for 3rd in RBIs.
His trade is very close to when Ryan Johnson went on the IL. Coincidence? I think not.
If you want to have some fun with Minor League Stats, look no further than the Hooks Pitching staff. There are 10 pitches with ERA’s under 4 - five of those have an ERA under 2.
Jose Fleury, who just turned 23 in March, has an ERA of 0.96 in 5 starts (28 IP). He has a whip of 0.714. He has 31 Ks to just 5 walks. That is pretty good control. Fleury was the Texas League pitcher of the month. He is another of the older DR signings. He signed in December of 21 (age 19 and 10 months) for just $10,000.
Another interesting pitcher to watch is Alimber Santa (If you aren’t picturing a fat man in a red suit doing yoga you are doing it wrong).
Santa was signed in 2020 for 75K from the DR. He is now 22 and showing promise. Last year, he finished the year in CC but walked 20 batters in 21 2/3 IP. This year through his first 17 2/3 IP, he has only walked 3 and K’d 19. He has only given up 12 hits and two runs for a 1.02 ERA. He has also only given up one extra base hit this year - a double.
