That has been on YouTube for a few days, but I have not watched it yet. Is it worth watching?

If you can stand the robot voice, there is some good information. I think he’s been sandbagging.

That list of games missed through injury is pretty damning for someone looking for a 10- year contract. Surely that boat has now sailed and he’ll have to take what he can get to try to prove that the rumours of his ankle’s demise are greatly exaggerated.

Harsh, but fair.

I just read the article about Correa’s slide injury in September. That was a clear warning sign.

Are MLB owners unaware of injury issues of players they are seeking? Would think this kind of stuff is generally well known among baseball types they employ and in the game, in general.

Beats me, but one would think someone has responsibility to monitor this issue. Do they leave it all to the pre-contract physical?

And, this all seems so… unseemly. The Correa / Boras team scampering around trying to ink any long term deal with the Twins then the Mets before word got out about the Giants medical reservations. Sure it’s a buyer beware marketplace but it’s just so skeevey trying to peddle broken goods to some unsuspecting stooge.

I’m sure that Boras and Correa think if it as:

Players who are free to choose their own teams and negotiate their own salary, get anywhere from $5M+ per projected WAR.

Correa has made under $62M in his career but accumulated 39.5 WAR.

At $5M per, thats $197.5M or over $135M of excess value that Correa has earned his team since 2015. And thats just at $5M per WAR.

How much profit has Correa put into the Astros and Twins and their shareholders bank accounts?

Correa paid his dues, at low salary and security to get to the point he can finally get paid.

MLB owes him this contract.

Poor baby

The second statement is the closest to accurate. They’re Not going off dollars per WAR or anything, they’re getting the maximum dollars they can. But that has nothing to do with what the Astros or Twins paid him.

MLB owes him nothing.

Contracts are structured based on the CBA.

The MLBPA signed off on it.

Can you give the rest of us some mind-reading tips?

I was just pointing out that Boras and Correa may have a different mindset and not consider it “skeevey”

I understand that no team or MLB itself owes Correa anything.

You are right.

And if there was a proposal to raise rookie or early career salaries in exchange for a salary cap or veteran salary max or limit the MLBPA would vote it down in a heartbeat

You can see why from this offseason. All it takes is one Cohen, or Steinbrenner in the past, to increase the size of the pie substantially. If they had a true salary cap that would not be possible outside CBA negotiations.

However, they did negotiate substantial raises and other improvements for players under club control this last go-around to help smooth out the imbalance.

Correa also could have accepted the Astros offer of 5/$160mm. Believe there were rumors of an Astro 6/$180mm offer but I don’t care enough to research that. Houston knew his injury history all too well. It was a damn solid offer that he was too proud to take.
