Beltran got his career storybook ending, at the expense of his own reputation. It could have been any team, but this one was primed for the crime. He was portrayed all year as the senior mentor, role model, and leader, and I bought all of it. I suspect the team and organization bought it too
He was all of that. It was a common recourse for over a year after the WS victory that he was a key contributor to that title. Nothing about that has changed except the perspective of those viewing from the outside.

I recall reading a preseason article in 2017 recounting a dinner with Beltran, Altuve, and some kid who played short. The story went that Altuve began picking Beltran’s mind on hitting immediately.
