He’s only 65. Very young.

His style should go over great in that clubhouse. It will be fun to watch.

This made me laugh.

A’s hire Kotsay

Great news for the Astros (i.e. keeping Espada).

That’s surprising.

I won’t miss him hitting homers against the Astros.

Hope he enjoys retirement.

Surprising indeed. There was a lot of chatter/speculation about him trying to sign a deal to play with his brother next year.

Agreed about not missing his at bats against the Astros.

I can’t believe he’s been around 11 ML seasons.

Can’t believe it’s been only 11 seasons. He’s the kind of guy who’s seems to have been in the league forever. Maybe it only feels that way to Astros fans.

Against the Astros:

154 games, .238/.320/.460, 31 HR, 90 RBI

Not a bad clip for a full season’s worth of games. But against the Rangers:

182 games, .290/.365/.514, 37 HR, 121 RBI

Wow he’s only 34. Very surprising indeed

Go scorched earth, Ken.

What did he say?

May just be typical NYP muckraking:

ETA: he’s still employed by Fox, so he’s still under MLB’s thumb. I think he’s honest, but I also think he’s smart enough not to report everything he knows (or has been credibly told). This is an inherent problem with a reporter in his position trying to do investigative journalism.

Needs a history lesson…

Now he has something else named after him besides that button on your remote…

Slow motion knuckleball. Count how many times it rotates:

In mergers and acquisitions news:

  • Fanatics–which has been one of MLB’s two merchandising partners–has bought Topps for $500M. This one was pretty foreseeable since last summer when Fanatics managed to steal away Topps’ exclusive license with MLB to do trading cards.

  • The NYT is buying The Athletic for $550M.
