Baseball Miscellany

I’m sure they’ll also strip control of money from teams next, so that all the teams have the same funding. Right?

I think the idea is to take the emphasis away from trying to win and stick to developing players. Like don’t take a guy out of the lineup because he hits lefties poorly . How is he going to improve if you don’t give him the chance?

I was familiar with certain parts of this story (the tension between the Browns and the Cardinals, Sportsman’s Park, the Buffaloes), but I admit I didn’t know the Cardinals came that close to moving to Houston. And I’m sure a lot of folks already knew this:

I didn’t know that either. Good stuff.

Cool.

Had no idea either.

One of my favorite baseball youtubers, Baseball’s Not Dead, recently did a video on MLB relocations. It’s a hell of a long video but it’s a good watch if you have the time

Just finished a good MLB network documentary film “The School of Rickey” [Henderson]. Looks like it’s available free on vimeo and tubi if anyone’s interested. Lots of good interviews and stories and highlights, very Oakland-centric.

The A’s lockup Sodastraw with a 7 year deal.

I’ll have to check it out. I heard the Netflix doc, “Who Killed the Montreal Expos,” was pretty good. I’m watching that one today.

Ouch

Yesterday I saw a video where a guy is naming the homerun leader at every position (Henry Aaron in RF, Mays in CF etc).

They get to 3B and I immediately know its Mike Schmidt.

The guy on the video is blanking so the other guy starts giving hints.

“He played 50 years ago.”

Then I laid down and died.

If it makes you feel any better he also played 35 years ago

No, no it doesn’t.

On this date in 1976 Micheal Jack Schmidt already had 93 career homers.

We’re living in a simulation, right?

No, that’s just a calendar (app on your phone).

Kepler and MLB negotiated a settlement that allows him to serve the suspension even if he’s not on an MLB roster to begin the season, reports Alden González of ESPN. If he remains a free agent, last year’s playing time with Philadelphia [127 games] would count as a credit towards the suspension.

Huh?

Meaning if he goes 80 games into the season without signing, his suspension is over. So no team will sign him prior to mid-year

That seems equitable.

Otherwise no team would sign him only to have a roster spot gone for 80 games.
