Speaking of this guy Cruz, I just saw him pop a tooth out of Miguel Rojasās mouth on a caught stealing. Helmet to puss. Never seen that before. Rojas walked right off the field (it was the second out). You can plainly see the little white soldier flying out of his face.
Padres lost again today and are now just 1-6 this season in Denver against the sub-.500 Rockies. They will probably still make the playoffs this year but if they end up missing out by a game or two their ineptitude in high altitude will surely be rubbed in their faces.
Iām not sure how significant a factor it is, but I wonder about what Iād term as āgrip strength at contact.ā In other words, if you get a lot of data, you can look at equivalent bat speeds and equivalent sweet spot/angle contact, and see if the exit velocities are equal. Iād suspect not, as a stronger person will transfer the force of the bat more efficiently than a weaker person.
The odd thing was it wasnāt the ump that made the call that Morrison went after. It was the other field ump. The first base ump left the field like umps are supposed to. That ump had the chance to leave the field when someone came to restrain Morrison but he decided to turn around and make a huge deal about getting stepped on, kick his shoe off and throw his shoe. That brought other people into the mix. The ump escalated the situation. When you have the winning manager thrown out something is wrong with the ump.
BTW - Devon Torrence (the guy who hit the ball and was called safe at first) was drafted by the Astros in 16th round of 2007. He was also committed to play football at Ohio State. He played 07 & 08 in Greeneville then focused on his football career playing DB at Ohio State.
He was in training camp with the Vikings in 11 and then released.
He was signed by the Bengals to their practice squad and released in early 2012
In Aug of 12 he is both signed and released by the Jets.
In 2013 he goes to Canada and signs with the Montreal Alouettes. He is released before the season begins.
in 2014 he signs a minor league contract with the Royals and breaks camp in short season ball but is released after two weeks.
He then signs with an indy ball team in Kentucky.
I donāt know where he was from 2015 to 2018 but in 2019, as a 30 year old who hadnāt played competitive ball in 5 years, he signs with the Lancaster Barnstormers and has been with them since.
He has never made it to the majors of any sport but has a bunch of cool practice gear and hotel points. What a journey.
