Astros @ Yankees, 8/3/2023

I agree but hoping he’s close to snapping out of it. I’ve really been paying attention to his ABs. Specifically I’ve been watching at how he’s handled the outside slider. I really feel like he’s done a better job at laying off of it the last three weeks or so. Last night he did swing at one waaaayyyy off the plate but I think he’s been better. Then again, you look at month by month splits and his numbers are getting worse, not better. Hoping he turns it around.

He had a perfect day at the plate the day of Framber’s no-hitter, and every at bat was excellent.

My “friend” posted that Pena is dealing with some personal issues that could be effecting him.

Member: I’ve already said this but Pena could’ve beaten out that double play if he actually ran hard. Why did he give up so quick?

Member: Seemed he halfassed. Play at first wasn’t all that close.
He was moping like many players do.

“My friend”: Supposedly he is going through some personal stuff. These guys are people - and some people cannot compartmentalize well and it impacts all parts of their lives.

Which season was it that Bagwell was struggling so badly while going through his divorce? 95?

Last night hurt because it was there for the taking, and the Astros outplayed the Yankees. They just couldn’t get a big hit when they needed one, and Graveman just couldn’t put away Bader, after having him down 0-2. We are entering the home stretch, and every game is important. Gotta put last night behind us, and go out and win today.

‘95 sounds right. That’s when I graduated high school. One of the servers at the restaurant I worked at senior year was dating a Tucson Toro who’d been called up to the Astros a few times. Said Bagwell was a man on fire with his social life.

ETA - I think it was Mike Simms.

7th or 8th is a good spot to work out personal issues.

Buried the lede that he also said they’ve offered Machete “surprisingly high up” positions in the front office after this year!

I’d much rather have him coaching

Don’t forget that apparently Maldy wants to work with Sarah Gelles.

Was that Dina?

Maybe? I remember she (the server) was one of your classmates.

Priority #1 is having Maldy remain with the Astros when he stops playing.
Priority #2 is having him stay as close to the players for the first part of that stint to transfer as much knowledge and work ethic to the next round of players.

You’d have to ask Jim or HH, but I think Dina Shore was a little old for that gig

It was Dina Saragaglia.
She dated Mike when she and I were at UA.
She had some interesting stories from when he got called up from Tucson to Houston/The Show and she would visit him on road trips.

Especially since she was in the grave. But we’re not here to judge anyone for their proclivities.

My favorite scenario has Dusty retiring at the end of the season, Espada takes over a manager, and Maldy becomes bench coach.

I like the sound of that. The Astros aren’t going to be able to keep Espada in a bench coach role forever, so he either needs to become Astros’ manager; or Maldy steps into his role as bench coach.

Oh my Lord would that be fantastic!
