Astros Top the Draft Rankings for the 2010s

No, it ain’t exactly a shocker. And yes obviously it’s incomplete given that we are not yet far enough removed given that some players are still in the early/middle parts of their careers (Bregman, Correa, McCullers, Tucker) and other more recent draft picks haven’t even reached the big leagues yet.

BA used WAR of the drafted players in determining these rankings.

Apologies since yes I know this did get posted in another thread…

From the same MLB Farm twitter account (give 'em a follow)…

Would be interesting to see similar graphs for the international draft, international acquisition and, especially, trades.

That international draft one would be a flat line.

Ha, yeah. Forgot that it did not start yet. Was it approved to start in 2024 or was that negotiated out in the latest agreement?

They kicked the can down the road and are still negotiating during the season. If they don’t reach agreement, the QO system snaps back into place.

July 25 deadline looming with the sides far apart. A 20 round draft is acceptable to both sides but that’s where the agreement ends. MLB wants $181MM in spending for the 600 draft picks but the union says $260MM. Undrafted players would get a max $20K per MLB but the union wants $40K. Other areas are being fought over as well.

Lefty posted a link to an ESPN article the other day but here’s also an article yesterday in the NYT…
