Gotta be a mudder
Mark’s team in 1997 had to play Robstown a one game regional semis playoff. The game was in Robstown because the dang coach (me) lost the flip, and I got sympathy calls all week because “nobody ever wins in Robstown.”
A reprieve? It rained all week, and we were so sure the game could not be played, I had the Astrodome lined up for the game which most certainly would be moved. Robstown had the whole damn town working all night to get the field ready, and the rain stopped to allow the heroic efforts to keep the game on their home field where “nobody wins.” To prove the point, they had beaten Calallen there that year.
The sun came out for the game, and the town miraculously had the field playable. We played the game and won 8-5.
