Astros @ Red Sox, August 9, 2024

Now one out, but yeah it’s taking way too long.

Smart of Altuve to get the out at first.

It doesn’t help that he’s pitching on a Slip’N’Slide

That’s fair. The weather isn’t doing him any favors.

I hate typing these words, but Cmon Mets barely squeak out an injury filled and emotionally draining victory by the smallest margins possible

Pressly settled down after the two walks to start the inning. Good job by him and the Astros to get this win.

Pitching in the rain on a well used mound is a fucking nightmare

May they have sprains to match their leads.

195 pitches for the Astros tonight. Yeesh

Yet, they only allowed three runs. They made the pitches when they had to.

The worst game of my high school career happened at a tournament where it had been raining off and on all day. We were the 4th game of the day on that field. I walked 6 batters in 4 innings. For context, I averaged about 1 walk per start in my 4 years between JV and Varsity. Those 6 walks were literally half the walks I had that season. Nightmare

1996, I worked a game at Waller as an umpire. Expected the game to be rained out but the rain stopped by 4 PM and the coach, I shut you not, used a tractor to drag something across the field to try to run the water off. Most of the field was OK, but there were 3 inch deep wheel marks into the infield, but the coach said it was OK to play. Every ground ball was a freaking pachinko adventure, and no one had any idea where they would go. Don’t recall how many were called ‘hits’ and how many were ‘errors’, but I was amazed no one sprained themselves trying to play that game (base paths were clear and so was the mound, FWIW).

That sounds like just about the worst idea I’ve ever heard of

Our baseball coach once hired a helicopter to hover over the field to try to dry it. It at least push the water around.

(The highest point in my hometown is about 8 feet above sea level. The water table is just below the roots of the grass.)
