Altuve 4
Bregman 5
Alvarez 7
Diaz DH
Peña 6
Caratini 2
Meyers 8
Dezenzo 3
Dubón 9
Kikuchi on the bump.
RHP Jose Ureña starts for Arlington. Great to see Dezenzo starting at 1B vs a righty. If he’s gonna be up here, he needs real exposure.

Dubon has been terrible for some time now.
Why does Espada insist on starting him nearly every game.
.213 / .237 / .327 since June 1st.
.145 / .172 / .258 since July 1st.
Even Chas has been better than that.
Dubon can hit the cutoff on just two bounces.
Look at his alternatives
You got 13 position players on the roster. Nine of them have to start and one of them is your backup catcher. Who should be starting over Dubon most days?
So, not counting catchers you have 11 for 8 spots.
Altuve, Bregman, Pena, Alvarez, and Meyers are regular starters.
That leaves 6 for 3 spots. 1b, LF, and RF
Without Tucker the production at those 3 spots has been awful.
Dana brought up Leon and Dezenzo specifically hoping to improve that - they need to play nearly everyday- otherwise why aren’t they still in AAA getting everyday playing time. I had this same gripe when they brought up Loperfido and he sat the bench.
That leaves: Dubon, Aledmys Diaz, Chas, and Singleton for 1 spot.
No, they don’t.
This team still needs to win games, the Astros aren’t the Angels… yet.
Dezenzo (small sample) is playing every day. What’s the problem?
Right. The Angels have dead weight contracts for guys who can’t stay healthy and keep desperately calling up recent draftees.
Eh? Oh.
I get (and agree) that they still need to win games.
So, does that mean a guy hitting .145 for the past 5 weeks and .213 for the past 10 weeks gives the team a better chance to win than an unproven recent call up?
So he should play everyday and the prospect should sit?
How has the team done the past 5 weeks?
Won 15 and lost 14 in the time period I am referencing: July 1st- yesterday.
Is that the evidence that the status quo is good enough and I’m wrong wanting to try sitting Dubon on the bench more often?
Quite well for the most part. That Rays series though….4 runs over 3 games. Yikes.
No, you just seem to be putting a lot of weight on Dubon’s production when the fate of the team rests elsewhere.
Since July 1: 15-14 averaging 4.3 runs per game.
Since the ASB: 8-9 averaging 3.3 runs per game.
I accept that.
Its just something that I noticed that set me off.
It may not be as important as other factors, but I don’t think I’m wrong either.
The problem for me is asserting that, because Dubon is scuffling, he needs to sit a bunch. There are a ton of issues in this lineup that have been a problem all year. Dubon scuffling currently is not the backbreaker. I’d rather Dubon play through his recent issues than keep on trotting out the rest of the season-long black holes every day.
Chas enjoys the Dubon talk.
Pena with a bases-loaded FC to go up 1-0
Yordan is unlikely to see a strike today.
