Yeah Bielak is obviously no cy young but heās been perfectly adequate for his role the last few years. You need a Brandon Bielak to get through a season.
Hunter Brown is a far bigger issue than Brandon Bielak. Bielak is on the team to be the long reliever or mop up man for nights like tonight. Hunter Brown has given the Astros six innings in his two starts after a horrible second half of last season. Thatās not going to cut it. He has talent but is struggling to put it all together right now.
I donāt disagree with that at all. Brown is a much bigger problem. And Bielak did ādo his jobā yesterday and ate some innings. My only point is that Bielak is a AAAA pitcher, and having him on the roster is a sign that the front office failed to address an off-season problem. Same for Singleton.
Letās hope France throws a hell of a game today, and letās hope the bats wake up.
Not only that, every team needs a mop-up man. Itās a162-game schedule. Shit happens. The problem will be when Bielak either a) has to start games, or b) is pitching 15 innings a week.
While true, not all of these IL stints started in the final day of spring training. They were known, and many here lamented not signing another arm, be it Montgomery, Snell, Lorenzen or another bullpen arm.
Regardless, itās too late now. They have to find a way out of this mess. And if they would stop walking other batters in the order, perhaps they could afford to pitch around Garcia. Need a great day from France today and the bats need to wake the hell up.
