And put this one in the books. Astros go down 10-2.

Go get em tomorrow.

Heā€™s a AAAA pitcher. I wouldnā€™t go so far as to call him the Singleton of the pitching staff, but heā€™s close.

Bielak ate some innings after Brown soiled himself. I got no gripes with him.

Yeah Bielak is obviously no cy young but heā€™s been perfectly adequate for his role the last few years. You need a Brandon Bielak to get through a season.

Hunter Brown is a far bigger issue than Brandon Bielak. Bielak is on the team to be the long reliever or mop up man for nights like tonight. Hunter Brown has given the Astros six innings in his two starts after a horrible second half of last season. Thatā€™s not going to cut it. He has talent but is struggling to put it all together right now.

I donā€™t disagree with that at all. Brown is a much bigger problem. And Bielak did ā€œdo his jobā€ yesterday and ate some innings. My only point is that Bielak is a AAAA pitcher, and having him on the roster is a sign that the front office failed to address an off-season problem. Same for Singleton.

Letā€™s hope France throws a hell of a game today, and letā€™s hope the bats wake up.

Having a AAAA pitcher on the roster when you have 4 starters on the IL is what would happen to any team

Not only that, every team needs a mop-up man. Itā€™s a162-game schedule. Shit happens. The problem will be when Bielak either a) has to start games, or b) is pitching 15 innings a week.

Agreed - or even half that. He needs 125 innings or about 5 per week or less.

Brown may end up being a leverage reliever after all.

Not if he canā€™t throw strikes reliably.

Thatā€™s a fairly big if at the moment.

While true, not all of these IL stints started in the final day of spring training. They were known, and many here lamented not signing another arm, be it Montgomery, Snell, Lorenzen or another bullpen arm.

Regardless, itā€™s too late now. They have to find a way out of this mess. And if they would stop walking other batters in the order, perhaps they could afford to pitch around Garcia. Need a great day from France today and the bats need to wake the hell up.
