Before we get too deep in the weeds, I think most criticism of Altuve has been in the vein of āHe is a great player, but this aspect which is in his control keeps him from being even greaterā.

Maybe not an inning from the IP standpoint.
He is a very good player and an excellent hitter, but his shortcomings keep him from being considered great, in my opinion. He could be one of the greatest ever if he had situational awareness and plate discipline. He is not great now, but he could be.
He also appears to be a wonderful person.
