I put blind faith in this organizations ability to identify and develop pitching at the big league level, they got this one totally and fatally wrong

Yeah, it’s really hard to figure how an organization that has worked such pitching magic over the last decade has come to this, an all-time, historically bad staff. Their record doesn’t surprise me particularly, but the way they’ve arrived at it obviously does.

This is the first time the Astros have ever lost 8 straight games in a single road trip. (They had another 8 game streak that was interrupted by a single home game, also lost, in 1990.)
Add in the injuries, and it’s not hyperbole to say this was the worst road trip in franchise history.

The 1988 Baltimore Orioles did not win their first game of the season until April 29th. So we got that going for us.
Call me Pollyanna but I have seen many of these pitchers perform much much better than this.
I think its a case of bad luck, bad performance, and injuries are contagious.
At some point Burrows, Abreu, Okert, and Blubaugh will have a long period of pitching to a sub 4 ERA. McCullers too if he can stay healthy.
Alexander, Gordon, and Arrighetti should at least be able to regularly go 5+ with less than 4 walks.
All they need is a few good ones in a row to get monentum.
3 vs Rockies and 3 vs Cards at home starts tomorrow.
I’m calling 2 quality starts and fewer than 25 walks. Baby steps.
Fewer than 25 walks in 2 starts would be baby steps.

The pitching probably won’t be this terrible over the course of the season.

Right, plenty of reason to expect positive regression, if only on the basis that even the worst teams don’t pitch like this forever. Just not sure how that regression will be enough to take them out of the cellar.

They are averaging 3.0 runs per game in their last 6 games so they are already headed in that direction.
