Astros @ DBacks, August 5, 2020

Reddick with a chance to do some damage in the 8th with 2 on and 2 outs, fouls off a cookie and takes a thigh high fastball with his bat on his shoulder for strike three.

Fucking putrid.

I do not understand the staring at pitches over the plate with runners on and in hitters counts. This is not a new development.

What is their philosophy?

This is fucking embarrassing.

Also, I was listening on the radio while McCullers fell apart, was there some reason Dusty left him out there to keep on shitting himself?

Baker after the game said a reliever could not get loose quickly enough. I assume he meant in the 4th, but it was not clear.

Not to mention all of the starters, apart from Javier, have completely shit the bed too. Throw in a few extra inning farces, and the bullpen has had to work it’s young ass off. At some point, another starter has to step up and go more than a few innings.

Is Framber going to get a start. Not that he inspires confidence.

Non-rookies in the bullpen: Pressly

That is all.

“Opening the roof in the fourth is ass,” McCullers said.

It may be ass, but he has to deal with it. What disappointed me the most was his response to the Calhoun ITPHR. A liner to RF, for the first baserunner, then the wild ass bounce and Straw picking his nose. Lance has to say “OK, that was fucked up. But it’s just 4-2, put that behind me me, clear the slate, and start this inning over.”. Instead he completely folded. Sad and frustrating.

Besides the injuries this year, recent history also includes the loss of Morton, Cole, Rondon, and Harris. Probably others I have forgotten also.

Joe Smith

That bullpen can only be magic so long. I’m glad the youngsters are/were performing well, but thinking they could continue that is a pipe dream. In this league, everyone catches up to everyone eventually.

And I can’t believe I called the roof opening excuse. Lance should have found some inner strength and tried to be come the ace of the team. He failed.

Yep, Smith—a COVID injury.

Here’s the rest of the quote: “It’s not an excuse. It just is what it is. Balls were being hit that were routine pop-ups and they were landing off walls. It was kind of just an unfortunate inning. But, like I said, the stuff was there. I felt really good. I just have to keep moving forward with that.”

It’s not an excuse, yet he said it. Lance has so much potential and that game is where he should have stepped up as HH said. He didn’t seem to adjust.

But, Tucker and Straw were horrible. I turned it off preferring to get sleep than to watch the last 6 runs get scored.

I am not a fan of Straw in CF. Yes, he’s fast, but he doesn’t impress me as an outfielder. I’m absolutely convinced that the Astros win that game last night with Jake Marisnick in CF.

The pitches to Calhoun and Peralta were terrible. He left both down and in, which is the happy zone for any LHB. McCullers should not be surprised they hammered those offerings.
