Astros at Sacramento - 6/19/25

Top of the first, two on two out for Cam Smith who promptly strikes out to strand runners on first and second.

TK and Blummer were wearing quarter-zip fleeces in the pre-game. That can’t be comfortable.

Different catcher for the A’s tonight. Last night’s guy is probably wandering around bumping into walls and drooling on himself.

The number of passed balls I saw Tuesday night was crazy. The catcher has to be huddled in a corner somewhere. Or on a bus to AAA.

Colton Gordon on the mound for the Astros. Allows a leadoff single followed by a bloop single for his own runners on first and second situation. Gets a strikeout, though, followed by a pop up to Caratini.

Two outs…

He took at least four direct shots off the mask last night, and by the end he really did look like his bell was rung.

The wind is ripping there. You even see it on Gordon’s jersey when he stands up straight.

Edited to add: SSE 21 G 26 at the last report at the airport 20 minutes ago.

Eek. At least it was in Sutter Health Park. Surely, the name means something.

Those were fucking strikes. Do we have minor-league umps, too?

About those two outs, a walk (on what should’ve been ball four) loads the bases. Nick Kurtz who walked off the Astros Monday night is up.

Another pop up for Caratini ends the inning.

It looks like the wind is going to make this a challenging evening.

The wind did its job blowing the ball back onto the field behind home plate.

TK mentioned it’s 20 degrees cooler than last night.

It’s interesting. The park is just north and east of the Delta (you drive over its northern edge on HWY 80 coming into Sac). I would expect the breezes to be blowing out more often than not. Tonight doesn’t seem to validate that idea.

Mid to high 80’s probably feels downright chilly after yesterday.

MacIvor smack.
1-0 A’s.

Wait: he pitches, catches, and hits homers? Move over, Ohtani.

Butler 2nd HR of the inning.
2-0 A’s.

My bad: I put Butler on my fantasy bench tonight since he was up against a lefty.
