In senior softball, in order to eliminate collisions the runner scores by crossing a line that is generally an extension of the first base line. A runner that touches the plate is out.
I thankful one doesn’t have to know all the ins and outs of baseball to be able to enjoy the game or even play it - and grateful for help for received here from time to time. I’m also thankful I got to play some Little League as a child.
One scene that saddens me to this day involved two of my grandsons who were in the stands, watching a little league team go through their drills several years ago. (They were never in Little League.)
The coach yelled to his team, “Line up to bat!” And off they went. They didn’t know they couldn’t bat. The coach had to chase them off - they weren’t HIS guys.
These boys are in HS now and have never played on a baseball team.
