Old school vs new school philosophy. Sabermetrics say best hitter should bat 2nd to get more ABs and still have the leadoff guy on a base a bunch in front of him.

For what it’s worth, sabermetrics also say where you bat guys between 2 and 5 doesn’t matter very much as long as those are your 4 best hitters. The main thing is to cluster your best hitters one after another whether that is 1-4, 2-5, 3-6 whatever.
