Dusty seems to be under the impression that the regular season is a done deal, so giving struggling hitters and relief pitchers lots of reps to maybe work out their problems is just fine.
The regular season is not a done deal. The race for best record and even the division race are still things that exist.
Home field advantage in the playoffs is a huge deal. He needs to be putting his best lineup out there daily trying to catch the Dodger’s record and staying ahead of the Yankees. I understand giving people a day off here or there but it’s a different lineup daily.
Not upset Dusty’s remarks couldn’t be heard in the postgame interview on TV.

The way Dusty usually peppers his remarks with, “I mean” or, “You know” makes me want to put chopsticks in my ears often.
He’s 72. There is no rehabilitation. We go forward with this. No epiphany has occurred. Why is Verlander excepted from the consequences of Dusty’s lineup experiment?
His pitching decisions with TWO OUT in the 8th last night were inexplicable. Those decisions lost the game. Montero has been great all year, but he struggled the day before and had to be relieved by Pressly with a lead. Why use him again the very next day, and why stick with him through five hitters until CWS has the lead? Why not Stanek or Neris or even Maton to get one out? Why use a likely tired pitcher at all much less staying with him with the bases loaded when he clearly does not have his best stuff?
Baker’s lineups are terrible, but until last night, his bullpen management had been a continuation of the good job he did in the playoffs last year. He appears overconfident and unconcerned because of the big lead. The rest of the season may be a bumpy ride if he does not play his best hitters, does not rest his best relievers occasionally, and does not use all four of his closer types in high leverage situations. Montero could not shut them down, and Urquidy’s great effort was wasted. The team coughed up a win which would have gained another game on NYY. That is 100% on Dusty Baker.

What we do not know, and I wish everyone did, is what Urquidy said and felt after the infield hit and what the high leverage relievers said before the game about their availability. Baker said in his postgame monologue he was staying away from Stanek and Pressly. Why? He also said Montero was the freshest. What? He struggled the day before!
Urquidy seemed to be rolling, but at the same time, didn’t seem upset at being pulled either. The ‘hit’ to Bregman was not indicative of him losing it or getting tired it seemed. He was under 100 pitches albeit a season high. Manager outlawscotty does not pull him.
I also watch the games from home, so…
As far as the relievers, he messed that up worse than the original decision to go there.
