Canada was the most difficult country I ever had to enter for work. Took weeks of paperwork, an hour grilling at immigration, a stop at the Service Canada office, all for some company meetings.

Word. I was grilled for over an hour with a bunch of “what skill do you have in this area that a Canadian citizen can’t fulfill?” and they did not like my repeated answer of, “I don’t know, ask the Canadian government official who sponsored and invited me”.

That’s what I got. What skills do I have? None. But I do have specific knowledge of company policy that no one else in the office here does. Why can’t I train a Canadian to have that knowledge? Why the hell do you think I came here? It’s Tuesday…I’m leaving Thursday…I’m not opening a Waffle House across the street from a Tim Horton’s.
