Darn. Angels win.
B12:
Smith in, Ward at 2B
Sierra…trying to bunt…can’t get it down…strikes out swinging
Adell, pinch hitting for Aguilar…pops out F3
Stassi…0-2…1-2…foul…2-2…3-2…takes a fastball almost down the middle for ball four. Holy sweet shit that was as bad a call as you’ll ever see. Ump just wants to go home.
That’s all for Smith, Martinez in
Duffy…full count…singles to CF, Dubon dives, but trapped it.
Ward scores as the Astros complete the dickstomp.
1-0 Angels
Meyers or McCormick make that catch.
But the Astros had chance after chance after chance and showed no interest in scoring.
Oh well. Manana is a new day
This was just a game of bad, bad fundamentals. Ohtani was tough, but the Angels got four hits…one led off the game and one ended it in the 12th. You have to win that game. Period.
Scoring oddity:
The free runner scored the winning run.
Box score lists Smith as the losing pitcher not Martinez.
So free runners score unearned runs but they’re apparently assigned to whoever starts the inning.
I guess.
Yeah, it’s always been that way. That’s how a pitcher can throw a perfect game and lose 1-0.
And they did go back and change Tucker’s reaching base in the 6th to catcher’s interference. That’s an error on Stassi.
It seems like most catcher’s interference calls are with left handed hitters at the plate. Is that a coincidence or due to the way the catcher sets up for lefties vs righties?
I think it’s because most happen when the catcher has to reach back across his body, and because catchers are right handed, that’s into left handed hitters.
