Does Abreu ever not start his ABs 0-2?
Well, the good news is weâve got the bottom half of the order due up in the 9th.
Aaarrgghhhhh. Not another nibble night for Montero.
Well, crap.
For fuckâs sake, fuck Montero.
He either nibbles or throws shit right down the middle.
Well, Montero certainly not beaten by dribblers tonight.
Bagwell managed to get Montero extended for less than $12MM a year so weâve got that going for us.
Bottom 8
Montero in to pitch
Rendon - walks on 5 pitches.
Rebfroe - F9. Rendon holds on 1st.
Drury - triples on a FB down the middle. Rendon scores.
Thaiss - F8, Drury scores.
Urshela - Ks.
End 8 Astros 4 Angels 6.
I donât get the âBagwell as GMâ hateâŚcare to clue me in?
There will be a 30 for 30 documentary about Jeff Bagwellâs month as GM.
I guess the thinking is, Abreu and Montero have been disappointments, so itâs Baggyâs fault for not foreseeing it.
I wish I could talk a guy like Crane into spending a hundred million dollars where and how I wanted.
Not for not foreseeing it. For giving them deals pretty much every other exec thought was too much, THEN they were disappointing.
Top 9
Estevez pitching
Tucker - F8 after fouling off the first 3 pitches.
Pena - 5-3.
McCormick - Ks swinging.
Final Astros 4 Angels 6.
Who were these other execs?
The standard offseason articles of anonymous surveys, with a common theme âI canât believe they gave him a third yearâ
Sub-.500. In May.
So basically, just people talking shit about the Astros.
Bagwell led the charge to sign Abreu. All of the advanced batting metrics pointed to a steep decline in Abreuâs performance, but, obviously, Bagwell rejects those sort of metrics for batters and here we are.
I canât imagine Bagwell had anything to do with Monteroâs contract, but itâs a horrible contract from the teamâs point of view, one that never would have been done with a GM in place, and Monteroâs recent performance makes it an easy dunk.
This is a team with a lot of problems, and some of those problems are due directly to the owner turning away from a (very) successful GM because that GM didnât lick his ass just right.
Brown is by all accounts supposed to be great, and I guess weâll need to see just how great he is in short order.
After all of the struggles, the Astros are still only 4.5 games back and we have Altuve and Brantley coming back very soon. No need to panic just yet. Montero and Stanek are too good to suck this bad all season. McCullers seems to be on track to return in June from all the reports Iâve read. Hard to say if we can expect anything from him. But if he can pitch anywhere close to his 2021 self, he would be a major addition to the team. Help could be on the way for this team very soon.
