Astros all quarter century team

The one change I’d make around the margins: to make a quarter-century team, I feel like you really ought to have been on the team for 5 or more of those years. Admittedly arbitrary, but that means no Clemens or Cole for me.

So that’d be Oswalt, Verlander, Framber, Keuchel… Wandy?

Maybe Wade Miller?

LMJ over either of those two, easily.

Perfectly reasonable, but Wade’s 2001 and 2002 seasons were both better than any season LMJ has pitched.

24 straight curveballs in 17 trumps Miller by itself

Without a doubt. One of the most historic performances in franchise history.

They are in full ranking season right now. They just did the top 25 games in MLB since 2000.

The Astros had several make the list. Not all are great memories.

Just so you know where the bar starts. 25 is Halladay’s no hitter in 2010.
#24 is game 7 2019 WS (moving right along here)
#19 is 2004 NLCS game 5: Astros 3, Cardinals 0
#17 2005 NLDS Game 4: Astros 7, Braves 6 (18 innings)
#4 2017 World Series Game 5: Astros 13, Dodgers 12 (10 innings)

#1 is 2001 WS game 7: Dbacks 3, Yankees, 2.

I like that they included G7 of the 2014 WS; that was a classic. And that batshit insane 2015 ALDS game between the Blue Jays and Rangers… I don’t think I’ve ever seen another game like that (run scores after the catcher’s throw back to the mound hits the bat, long umpire conference, crowd pissed off throwing shit on the field, next half inning the Rangers stomp all over their dicks, cough up the lead, Bautista hits one to the moon and throws his bat even farther, Encarnacion tries to calm the crowd down and the pissant Rangers pitcher thinks he’s showboating, the benches clear, and best of all, the Rangers get eliminated).

For me the 2022 WS no-no would make the list, as would G7 and especially G2 of the 2017 ALCS, but obviously those aren’t as memorable for fans of the other 29 teams.

I thought the pitchers’ duel with Seattle that Yordan ended in extra innings might make the list, but it didn’t.

I may have shared this before, but I had a trial starting the next day and was deep in prep with outside counsel so I wasn’t able to watch. I had checked my phone when the Astros were down and it looked like all hope was lost. The next time I pulled out my phone was an hour or two later, at which point I saw the score and exclaimed “holy shit we won!”

To the dismay of the other lawyers, they quickly learned I was just talking about baseball and not the case.

I get why 2001 WS game 7 was #1 and I’m OK with it.

However 2017 WS game #5 is #1 in my book and its going to be almost impossible to top it.

I still watch it over and over a couple of times per year.

I get why everybody loves game 5, I do too, don’t get me wrong.

Game 2 is the game for me. Pitching duel early, comeback late against the best closer in the game, fireworks in extras, weird shit like the ball bouncing off Taylors hat or the umpire getting hit on a pickoff, both of which saved runs for each team. That game has everything.

Game 5 was just a baseball game that snorted a huge line of cocaine. I think game 2 is the more well rounded game but I know I’m in the minority there

You say that like it’s a bad thing?

I think HH correctly has labeled G2 as the most important game in franchise history.

2005 NLDS at #17? Just stupid.

Watching Gonzo win it vs Mariano in G7 is a great, great thing. I’ll always remember that.

There’s a whole lot of Stros highlights, but I get why there’re not all in the Top Whatever.

Marwin’s swing is the most important moment in franchise history.

Is it the prettiest swing in franchise history?

I might say Yordan vs Seattle

Springer’s homer in Game 5 was one of the prettiest swings to me. But I think Yordan surpassed it.

I love that we now have so many games and moments to choose from and argue about
