Nice win!
What a big win. Beating the A’s is big enough, but to do it like that?
That is as good a win as we have had in a long, long time. Demoralizing loss for them.
Very nice. Picked it up with the 3-run bomb, so I missed the earlier heartburn.
May be my imagination, and not because of the homers, but I thought Yordan was attacking the ball better than he has all year.
HOF post
The Sports Section in the Chronicle tomorrow should have a photo of Yordan with the headline: “Daddy’s Home!”
You’re on a roll today!
One of my favorite headlines ever was in the Chronicle Sports Page way back in 1986. Astros shortstop Craig Reynolds had a walk-off base hit against Chicago. The headline read: Reynolds Rap Foils Cubs.
Sublime.
Stat shown during A’s broadcast T7 w/ the Astros ahead 9-6:
- Astros score < 6 runs, A’s win 3-0
- Astros score 6 or more runs, A’s lose 7-0, now 8-0…
Never would have guessed scoring 6+ runs in a game gives you a better chance of winning
That’s the kind of insight you can only get with an in-depth sabermetric background.
True, but that highlighted a familiar problem…
- 9 Apr @ home, after McCullers left after 5 w/ a 1-1 TIE, the BP (Taylor, Smith) gave up 5 runs in the 8th & 9th for a 2-6 loss.
- 10 Apr @ home, Urquidy left down 0-4 after six innings while BP (Bielak, Stanek) gave up 3 more runs canceling 3 runs from the offense for a 3-7 loss.
- 18 May @ A’s, after Javier pitched a 6 innings TIE of 3-3, the BP (Paredes, Scrub, Stanek, & Abreu) gave up a run in the 7th, 8th, & 9th (a walk off lost 5-6)
Two of the three losses were tied when the starter left after 5 & 6 innings, only the 3rd was an 0-4 deficit after 6 innings.
The BP gave up 11 of the 19 A’s runs in those three losses.
So you’re saying if the Astros score 6 runs AND also don’t give up 6 runs, that’s good?
Maybe the A’s stats folks were hinting to their fans that the game may not be good news for them.
Snuffy, who here gives one damn about what other teams’ broadcasters or stat folks say? If you are going to continue to post here, please remember this is an Astros board, and try to be relevant.
I miss the “ignore” feature.
There is one here. I have used it. Ask Waldo how to access it.
TY, Coach. I thot you were using the ignore feature…
When I have a thot that does not fit an existing topic, I will start one.
That will make it easier to ignore.
