2025 Arizona Fall League - Here are very brief bios on the Astros who will be playing on the Scottsdale Scorpions
Anderson Brito - The diminutive ( 5’ 10”) RHP with the power arm was putting together a good season in Asheville before he went on the IL in late June. Being on the AZ Fall league roster is a good sign he will get a chance to make up for lost time.
Brett Gillis - Another pitcher with a chance to make up for lost injury time. He also was in Asheville and has been on the IL since June. Gillis has only appeared in 17 games since being drafted. Twelve of those have been this season.
James Hicks- Another pitcher, another injury. Sound familiar? Hicks missed several months of the year due to his injury. He was activated from the IL by Corpus Christi on August 10th and since then has been solid. Here is a chance for him to get more innings this year.
Hudson Leach - You guessed it, a pitcher who missed some time with an injury. He started the year in Asheville and went on the IL in early May. He returned in July and was promoted to CC a month later. By the end of the year, he was promoted to AAA.
Nate Wohlgemuth - Wohlgemuth was a NDFA signing this year. His innings have been limited so he is going to Arizona to get some more innings. He pitched 8 innings in Indy ball prior to his signing and then 12 in the complex league and then 11 in Asheville. Since he arrived in Asheville in August, he has appeared in 9 games and hasn’t allowed a run in 7. But in one he allowed 5 so his ERA is quite inflated. It will be interesting to see how he does against the talent in the AFL.
Walker Janek - This is for sure a player to watch this fall. He has shown significant improvement in his second season in Asheville but it is surprising for a 1st round pick out of college to still be at High A in their second year. Also surprising is that he has stolen 30 bases in 32 tries.
Jeron Williams - The infielder started the 2025 season on the IL. After a short rehab in the complex league, he moved to Corpus Christi where he had finished the 2024 season. He showed improvement in his second trip around the Texas League.
Zach Cole - Well everyone knows about him after his debut in the MLB yesterday. It will be interesting to see if he will still make the trip to the AFL now that he has made his MLB debut.
