This story is fucking insane. What shitty human beings.
While if true they certainly are shitty parents, but something’s not adding up here. Scott Boras is his agent, and I’m having a hard time believing there wasn’t more oversight and financial fluency provided by Team Boras.
I don’t think I mentioned this, but I saw at Winter Meetings that “Team Boras” is not just a moniker. Boras was flanked by 8-9 guys in matching Team Boras polos at all times.
I haven’t seen the complaint itself, but the Philly Inquirer article says the alleged misconduct stems from them having taken control of some of his assets in 2019, the year after he was drafted (and received a $5.85M bonus). He hired Boras in 2020 so he would not have been advising Bohm when he first got rich. Could well be that the parents were acting as Bohm’s representation back then (not unheard of) and took advantage.
Bohm was represented by the Wasserman Agency when he first signed. They are not exactly hayseeds, having been high end/superstar agents for a long time, as well. I’m not saying his parents haven’t swindled him, just that there’s likely more to the story here.
Oof, yeah. Then either Bohm went against his agents’ advice or Wasserman will have a lot to answer for.
So more drama in this situation…Bohm has fired Scott Boras and rehired his old agent at the (previously) Wasserman Agency, the one who was advising him when his parents allegedly swindled him.
