ALDS Game 2: White Sox at Astros

OMG Tony’s press conference was incoherent at best.

I mean 2019 was this same infield but with Brantley/Springer/Reddick in the outfield with Jake Marisnick backing them up

Outfield is fine, but not as good as with Springer and Reddick. Best Astros defensive outfield was when they’d shuffle in Reddick, Marisnick, and Springer. But this one is fine.

From that same Twitter thread:

I’m not a fan, but if I were, his post game comments of “we had more hits than them” and “I’m proud. We played as well as we could” after losing 9-4 would anger me.

I am not comparing teams. I am saying only this OF is good.

Agreed. I don’t see how we’ve lost much if anything between then and now.

When the game ended, Maldonado went out and grabbed Graveman and had a very animated conversation with him - building up his confidence for his next outing I think.

I saw that also. Graveman’s confidence went up several notches throwing 3 FBs by Abreu.

Wasn’t 2019 the year of the Altuve yips, or was that last year? I don’t know, it just seems to me that the infield has developed a level of assurance and maturity that’s as good as any Astros team we’ve seen. some of it’s individual players, but some of it’s just the team as a team hitting on all cylinders. So far they’re not making mistakes.

That was last year. He made three errors in the first three games of the ALCS that likely cost the Astros the pennant.

I thought we were never going to speak of this again

I thought Altuve’s yips were last year, but I’m old and years run together.

HH said last year.

Thanks, I missed that.

2018 vs Boston was Altuve knee injury(s) that he played through, plus other injuries to other players.

I maintain that a healthy Astros team in 2018 was far better than that Red Sox team and would have brushed the Dodgers aside in the World series too. The “worst” Astros team from 17-19 is the team that won

Totally agree. The ‘18 pitching staff was just insane, and the ‘19 team was one of the best baseball teams of all time.

But trash cans!

I dunno, that '19 team is maybe the best I’ve ever seen
