Two totally different levels of misjudgment. Martinez has been really good ever since. Kîkåe has been useful, occasionally pretty good. No one could have possibly foreseen this outburst.

I don’t think they undervalued him, there was just no place for him. He wasn’t going to displace Altuve or Springer, and it’s not because they were a joke of an organization as he claimed.
My point, though, is that – as far as I know – Martinez has never bad-mouthed the Astros about the decision. To the contrary, he has acknowledged that he wasn’t performing, and that the release was a wake-up call that caused him to work even harder.
Maybe Hernandez is the kind of guy who needs a chip on his shoulder for motivation.

2014 they had Altuve at second, and Villar at short and Marwin was the utility guy. At the time they were all better than Hernandez. So he was traded.
