In the post-game, Rome reports: “Yordan Alvarez has a right knee sprain and will not play in this series against the Mariners, Joe Espada said. The Astros are not shutting the door on Alvarez returning this regular season.”
Yippee. Baseball players sit out with a hangnail sometimes.
Saw a great Vin Scully quote this morning–“reports say he’s day to day, but aren’t we all?”
I’m don’t know if this was in the GZ but Yordan will not make the trip to Cleveland.
We discussed how long it would take him to be fitted for a prosthetic device and whether he might be ready for opening day next spring.
Apparently they did some more imaging after that and discovered that Dubón tore a ligament in his thumb. He’s going to have surgery to repair it, with a 6-8 week recovery time, per Chandler Rome.
Head first slide into first is always dicey. I have pleaded with my son to not do so over and over again because this is what can happen.
Can tweak an ankle sliding feet first. Injuries happen.
I still recommend feet first because it’s easier to pop up and continue running if there is a bad throw. Sometimes going head first is better if the slide is a last instant decision and feet first might take you past the bag.
Of course, but what I’m advising is to not slide at all. The only reason to slide at first base in my opinion is if you can tell that the throw is going to be off as you are running and think that a tag play might potentially be in play.
