He is a rookie playing in the bigs for the first time. I think it is way too early to say or to judge what he will or will not be. He already is a solid major leaguer, imo.

Two huge ABs in the 8th last night: Vazquez and Dubon

Professional, unselfish, team first hitting

Agreed. I was particularly impressed with Vazquez. Speed and professional hitting manufactured that run.

Yes, they did. Grip it and rip it is not always the best plan.

He never played a ton of games in a season in milb (109 in '19 was by far his high). I wonder how much the “rookie wall” is factoring into his play.

Old fashioned run: lead off guy on, swipe second, and two guys intentionally hitting to the right side to move him. Don’t see that much any more but they played like they just needed one insurance run.

Baseball as it should be played. Vazquez with a dead RF approach. Dubon was down in the count with two strikes. I thought his AB was tremendous too.

Both were great at bats. Vazquez was looking to go to RF, and they were pitching him inside. Great job of pulling the hands in and “inside out” swing. Dubon, with the infield in, was just looking for a pitch to hit hard. He shortened up with two strikes and got a pitch to hit in the air. Both productive, professional at bats. I wish more players had that approach more often.

Preach, preacher!

That’s a little misleading though. Vazquez has “allowed” 40 SB in 680 innings. Maldonado has “allowed”27 in 705 innings. Vazquez has thrown out more because more people run on him.

And according to baseball-reference, Vazquez has thrown out 17 of 57.

That’s just as misleading if not more so.

Two different pitching staffs.

And the one in Boston had allowed a lot more base runners.

I think we’re pretty good at C.

That’s just as true. Lots goes into the numbers. Personally, the stat that matters to me is stolen bases allowed, and that’s a combination of a lot of things between pitching and catching. Like most stats, taken in isolation means little.
