A’s @ Astros, 5/20/23: Altuve Strikes Back

Mrs Hawk does what her Italian nonna did…stuff them with a mixture of seasoned breadcrumbs, freshly grated Parmesan cheese, lemon zest and garlic. Drizzle with EVOO and steam. No need for dipping sauce. We don’t shop regularly at Whole Foods, we’re good ol HEB folks, but there are certain things she likes better from Whole Foods. Artichokes are one of them. They are a whole meal at our house. With wine, of course.

Funny, there are two veggies she loves more than anything: artichokes and Brussels sprouts. I’m a huge asparagus and fresh tomatoes fan. Spring/summer are always good around here.

I’ve had that before but never tried it at home. How much coring out do you need to do?

I have one steaming as we speak, btw. A little salmon and wild rice will complete things.

I believe it was the Bad Livers who had the song “only 2 things that money can’t buy, that’s true love and homegrown tomatoes”. If you like cherry tomatoes, look for the “Sungold” variety, they put out a ridiculous amount and will keep going through Texas heat until September or so (they do pretty well planted in the fall too)

No coring. She trims the points off the leaves, but doesn’t core it. One you get to the choke, scoop it out with a spoon.

Body odor ain’t everything

Awesome. I’ll give it a shot soon, since they’re cheap and in season. I’m sure there’s a proper youtube video showing me what to do.

I love that the Dodgers IBB Goldschmidt to get to Nolan Gorman in a 3-3 game in the bottom of the 8th, who promptly hits a 3-run HR.

And now STL is trying to shit the bed and lose the lead in the 9th.

eta: Mookie Betts just got hosed on a 2 out 3-2 fastball about 5 inches off the plate, in a 6-5 game with the tying run at 2B. Hate to see it, but at least the ump dumbassery shows no favorites.
