A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Dems have been told to stay on the floor as a second vote will be held as soon as the failure in the first vote is made official by the clerk.

Johnson is not currently on the floor. Well, not the floor of the House, at least.

Johnson did some backroom dealing and got 2 votes switched prior to the first ballot being gaveled closed, which got him to 218 which is the bare minimum required to prevail. So, technically, he won on the first ballot.

Judge Merchan will sentence Trump for his 34 felonies on Jan 10. Trump has to attend, but can Zoom in if he prefers. Merchan has already indicated that there will not be a custodial element to the sentencing.

Trump is not formally a felon until sentenced. So while this may seem performative at this point, there is some legal weight to whatever punishment Merchan applies.

Apparently, Trump is angry that the flags will be at half staff on his Inauguration Day. Is there a more needy ego?

ETA: here’s a quote of great irony:

“The Democrats are all ‘giddy’ about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at ‘half mast’ during my Inauguration,” Trump said, employing a term frequently used for the lowered position when the flag is on a ship.*

*“They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves,” Trump said.”

There was a time when a Presidential inauguration was a celebration, as it was a manifestation of our democratic principles in action. A time for brass bands and waving the flag…dressing up. Sadly, those times are long gone.

Upper Class Twit of the Year. You’ve reached the final stage Donnie. Put on your watch, and sneakers…then you know what to do. Win, Win, Win!

Just a reminder that the Senate was sworn in on Friday while the House was sucking up all the news.

That means that Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin are no longer Senators.

Mitch McConnell is somehow still haunting the chambers.

He’s got that shit locked-in.

So prior to the election, Musk cranked the anxiety to 11. Now that Trump is about to be sworn in, he’s going to suppress bad news.

It’s so obvious and unsubtle that even MAGA is seeing through it.

So how is that new, friendlier Xitter going?

Think of all the user seconds he saved by typing “F u”

Good velo on that

“Factually distinguishable from the actual record”, Judge Merchan denies Trump’s efforts to stave off sentencing on Friday. I don’t know if that phrase is common legal parlance, but it should be framed and hung in a museum.

Giuliani has been held in contempt by a Trump-appointed judge in the settlement of the judgement against him in the election defamation case. He’s been fucking around on this since Day #1, and the judge has had enough.

Rudy has been claiming that he registered as a resident of Florida prior to the judgement against him, meaning his Palm Beach condo would be subject to Florida’s homestead protections. Giuliani has been pressed time and again by the court to prove this claim but has failed to do so.

The judge ran out of patience and has taken an “adverse inference” from Giuliani’s continued failure to present the paperwork for his FL residency. He is going to go forward on the basis that such paperwork doesn’t exist because, if it did, it would’ve been presented already.

So Giuliani is going to lose his $3+ million FL condo and, given that he has zero money, further contempt issues could see him in jail.

Things to watch this week:

  • Trump is begging Merrick Garland not to release Jack Smith’s reports on the two suspended prosecutions; and
  • Trump is begging anyone who will listen to stop the sentencing for his 34 felony convictions on Friday.

Three days is an eon in TrumpWorld, so let’s see how these pan out.
