A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Lots of speculation and conspiracy theories floating out there that it was staged. Trump hates the press, has never attended a WHCD before (as President), and is in desperate need of a “fight, fight, fight” moment. Couple that with the idea of a fully loaded gunman getting that close when everyone else reports they had to go through like three layers of metal detectors and airport-like security just to get in the door…

One things for sure…some sick motherfuckers out there. And if one did get that close, Trump’s security sucks ass.

Agree that stands out as a big mistake.

My vote is it was staged.

This is yet another one of those things that would be insane to contemplate under any administration other than this insane one, but here we are.

Also notable that the party that regularly chides people for politicizing things when gun violence happens immediately started using this incident as an argument for why the White House really needs a big beautiful (and much more secure) ballroom.

The only thing that indicates to me it wasn’t is the apparent lack of huge insider bets on Kalshi or Polymarket right before it happened.

You are probably right. It is just so damn convenient, though: they already have the shooter’s manifesto, and he went on and on about lax security. Then Der Fuhrer spends much of his PC talking about the security need for his ballroom.
Teed him up nicely.

Maybe they just forgot to tell Don Jr about it ahead of time.

Here is the deal. This is all about Naomi Klein’s Shock Doctrine. This has been going on since the dawn of humanity. Shock folks to the point that they’ll accept anything. Naomi didn’t create it and also wasn’t the first to acknowledge it. But the premise remains, disaster capitalism is the end game.

Elect clowns, expect circuses…

Comey indicted again, this time on two counts of threatening to kill Trump by posting an Istagram picture of seashell arranged to spell out “86 47”. He’s facing 20 years in prison.

I’m disgusted by the obviously political prosecution. I expect Comey to be acquitted although greatly inconvenienced. However, he kind of brought it on himself - and the rest of us…

I have no sympathy for Comey. He made his bed of nails, then stuffed it full of fleas. Then sold America down the river. Enjoy.

I don’t give a shit about Comey himself, who sold us all out. But I’m greatly alarmed that the next person who says something like “we’d be better off if Trump were dead” might wind up in the DOJ crosshairs.

This is especially great if you remember that various MAGA outlets spent several years peddling “8646” merchandise.

I would imagine that will be argument 1b in the defense’s case, argument 1a being the 1A itself.

By the way, SCOTUS finished gutting the Voting Rights Act today.

If we were talking about this in a classroom setting …

But we aren’t.

The same CJ who gave blanket immunity to DJT based on theoretical oversteps that might happen in the future is the same one who ignores blatantly racist LEGISLATION, practices, and campaign promises to murder the VRA.

Wonder if they’ll apply the same logic to gerrymandering based solely on party affiliation?

Easy now…

Thoughts and Prayers

Supreme Court ruled in 2019’s Rucho v Common Cause that, “partisan gerrymandering is a nonjusticiable political question, meaning federal courts cannot review claims regarding political map-drawing.”

So, to answer your question, no they won’t.
