A Republic, If You Can Keep It

MTG is still looking for ways to make herself “relevant”.

A single “No” vote from the GOP side and he loses.

Stop it, you’re killing me.

Everyone is going to be pitching for assignments and status. Anyone can stymie Johnson’s election just like Gaetz did two years ago.

Shit. Anyone who wants to be Speaker can hold this thing up for a long time.

This difference this time is that Trump will be President. They will all do what he tells them, without question. I don’t expect the same kind of infighting this time.

This may be a new low: Seb Gorka as counterterrorism czar. I would call him a Bond villain, but he’s so ridiculous that he’s more of an Austin Powers villain.

No. 2, if you will.

You should try being a Dapper Dan man

One of my favorite subtle running gags in the movie.

Here we go: Trump announces a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada, plus an additional 10% on goods from China.

His rationale is that this will stop illegal border crossings and drug trafficking. I’m not kidding.

This is insanity. Queue the inflation in 3… 2… 1…

Yup. Tariffing Mexico and China means that practically everything will go up in price.

The people who voted for Trump because of post-pandemic inflation are going to have to swallow a whole lot of rationalization as to how this is still somehow Biden’s fault.

Trump was due to be sentenced today in the NY criminal fraud case for his 34 felony convictions. The judge has delayed such sentencing - again - until Dec 2 to allow Team Trump to get the case dismissed because he got elected president. How that makes any fucking sense is beyond me.

Oh, and Jack Smith has petitioned the respective courts to drop the prosecutions against Trump for Jan 6 and the “stollen” documents. Merrick Garland had one fucking job…

I’m still skeptical. Didn’t he qualify it with concerns about fentanyl and a looming “caravan” in Mexico. I still think the “caravan” miraculously disappears (crossings are already way down), and fentanyl deaths are at recent lows. Basically, he’ll claim credit for stuff that already happened and say his genius threat of tariffs did the trick. His cult will then marvel at his superpowers.

In a long and rambling screed on Truth Social announcing his tariffs - remember his first term when he announced policy and firings on Twitter? Yeah, fun - he specifically mentioned that these are punishments to the respective countries for their failure to stop people and drugs illegally crossing the border.

He didn’t say it so concisely and clearly, but you ge the point.

Of course he’ll claim credit for there being no change in the current low level of border crossings. Fentanyl is mostly - like high-90s percent - smuggled in by US Citizens so he’ll just lie about that. Then he’ll blame Biden for the inflation caused by his tariffs.

There will be no consequences to any of his malfeasance.

That’s because he now has King powers, thank you very little, SCOTUS.

Fun Fact: The US imports a metric fuck ton of lumber and concrete from Canada. 40-something’s living in their parents’ basement will look back fondly at the housing affordability crisis during the Biden administration.

The good news is that, with the cost of raw materials being so expensive, there will be no one around to build anything. Eh? Oh.

The surge in caravans is a real thing. Crossings are a lagging indicator.

From a few days ago:

The international makeup of the surge is interesting as well:

Rudy continues his Errors 2024 tour.

The reason his assets - including his bank accounts - have been seized is because he fucked around with his bankruptcy filing and the judge threw it out. Now he’s just a rotting carcass upon which his creditors are feasting.

He should be a cautionary tale for all in TrumpWorld but they are all convinced, as he was, that Trump will do right by them. They are all, as he was, totally fucking wrong.
