Depth and vigor are not requisite in the new hegemony of knowledge. The next hegemon will not concern itself with the detritus of another empire lost. An ottoman is a place you may rest your feet, if that, for most.

So Trump didn’t want to get into a war in the Middle East (it’s the one thing he has said that I believe). Israel started one without him, and he immediately took credit for it because that’s what he does and he didn’t want to seem like he wasn’t all-powerful. And now we’re in an actual war in the Middle East.

You shouldn’t feel silly at all. you might be flying into a quagmire of delays and worse. Hell, I always have second thoughts about flying anywhere.
The full quote was that we are not at war with Iran, we are at war with Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
This is up there with “I don’t hate homosexuals, I just hate homosexuality”. All the while enduring to inflict as much cruelty as you can on the individual.

The ridiculous thing here is that this is a place where covert action to assist regime change might actually work. The vast majority of the Iranian people despise the regime and are somewhat pro-America. But this will just solidify the regime and turn the populace against us.

This is why you never step in to break up a fight between two people in the same group. If you do, they all turn on you.
Iran’s nuclear (weapon) ambitions were in check, thanks to a multilateral treaty. But that treaty had a black man’s signature on it so had to be torn up.
Once again, classic Trump. Create a problem, claim to solve the problem (without actually solving it) and walk away with the “W”. In this case, though, wars in the Middle East have a way of sucking you back in.

You might want to sit down for this but, when Trump said we have “obliterated” all the targets, he wasn’t being fully truthful.
Apparently the Fordow facility, at least, remains intact to a greater or lesser extent.
This was totally predictable. We have nothing in our arsenal that could neutralize that facility, other than a tactical nuke.
