A Republic, If You Can Keep It

The wealth gap in America will widen after this, just like it did after 2008.

It will widen forever until people decide to get serious about doing something about it, which will never happen because idiots get worked up about trans frisbee golfers or whatever the fuck that was and that’s where their outrage goes. It’s going to take a huge pandemic that just kills stupid people; I thought we had one going there for a minute but no dice.

Fun fact: the guy that pioneered the research into the monoclonal antibody treatment that saved Trump’s life, has just been fired by Trump. If that guy had not been so good at his job…

Regarding Kilmer Garcia - the aforementioned disappearee - I am absolutely certain that he is dead already. Under no circumstances can the administration let him tell his story, let alone get back in the country.

This is the reason for the delay. The cruelty is just the byproduct of their need to never admit or be confronted with a mistake. It’s adderall enhanced narcissism on display for the whole world to see.

This idiot thinks he can take on China AGAIN. Didn’t we already do this?

China has the chance to do the funniest thing, and tariff Trump merch by 1000% or just stop shipping it at all.

I’m guessing their power move they’re holding in their back pocket is tariffing services.

What would this look like?

Simple, China can apply a levy to money spent by Chinese firms on US services.

One big one is IP licensing.

SCOTUS says that Trump can traffic humans out of the country without due process.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/07/politics/supreme-court-deportation-flights-trump

CNN — The Supreme Court on Monday allowed President Donald Trump to enforce the Alien Enemies Act for now, handing the White House a significant victory that will let immigration officials rely on a sweeping wartime authority to rapidly deport alleged gang members.

The unsigned decision in the case, the most closely watched emergency appeal pending at the Supreme Court, lets Trump invoke the 1798 law to speed removals while litigation over the act’s use plays out in lower courts. The court stressed that people deported going forward should receive notice they are subject to the act and an opportunity to have their removal reviewed

What. Fucking. War?

Also financial services and business consulting are a big one. Just looked it up and in 2022 service exports to China accounted for over $40 billion.

The EU has announced a 25% tariff on $28 billion of US goods; they made it clear that this is step one in what could be an escalating series of sanctions. I imagine that a tariff on US services in the EU would be massive.

That is exactly opposite of what it said.

“The court stressed that people deported going forward should receive notice they are subject to the act and an opportunity to have their removal reviewed.”

This is due process: notice and an opportunity to be heard.

Garcia already had due process. He had been to court and had been given protected status. A judge ruled that he could not be deported, and they did it anyway. SCOTUS is primed to let that slide after issuing a stay on the order that would bring him back. If they were serious about enforcing due process, they would be doing it in that case already.

Also, SCOTUS conveniently ignored the fact that there is no fucking war to trigger the powers under Alien Insurrection Act.

This statement is not what the Court said.

No, but it’s what it means in effect. See above.

Ok, Professor. You went to a different law school than I did. What happened in 2019 is not due process for this removal; that argument is still alive. There are no final judgments anywhere yet. I am disagreeing with your conclusions, not with which side you are on.
