The closest any Astro got was Jeremy Peña who came in third at AL shortstop.

Ironically, Peña’s injury probably ensures that he’ll be named as a reserve instead of getting squeezed out by Witt.

This sucks for the players. But, gets a chuckle out of me. Think what this does to the other team players psyche. No “all stars” as the Astros march towards 100 wins and their umpteenth playoff appearance in a row. It’s part 1b of living rent-free in their minds.

I’m assuming Peña will get named as a reserve and a couple of pitchers. Brown and…maybe Hader?

Brown and Hader are stone cold locks. Abreu is a maybe.

Until his injury I was wondering if they’d take 3 SS in the AL, all are quite deserving.

They have to take Framber, too, don’t they?

Framber is deserving but the “every team must have a representative” rule always keeps deserving players out.

For example, the Angels’ 2 most deserving players are SS Neto who could keep Pena out or Kikuchi who could keep Framber out.

I think the Peña one is easy, since he’s injured: name him to the team, and then promptly name Neto as his injury replacement. Or does the “every team” guy have to be “legit” (i.e., not injury replacement)?

I’m pretty sure each team has to be represented before injury replacements are named.

It may be fine if they announce Pena out at same time but I think he wants to play in his first ASG and may not be officially out.

Kikuchi is starting to come around, but he was pretty weak for a lot of the first half. He’s got a 2.81 era, but a 3-6 record. Jo Adell has flown under the radar for the Angels, but he’s pretty consistently been as good as the Angels have had this season.

Pena, Brown, and Hader named All-Stars.
