Alternatives to conventional oil were a big part of his energy policy. He encouraged alternative energy, recycling, reducing consumption. Don’t be lazy…if you’re cold, put a sweater on. He was the epitome of a hard-working, self-reliant family man, all of which got him crucified by Reaganites who portrayed him as Caspar Milquetoast because he wasn’t a me-first, you-can-have-it-all, spendthrift gloss hound.

So much of what is wrong with society today can be traced back directly to Reagan. He initiated the greatest single tax hike in American history while simultaneously exploding the deficit and the debt. That’s quite a feat.
He also stole an election, dodged impeachment because his mind and his heart disagreed about facts, ignored a deadly pandemic - demonizing the victims of it - and spent the last years of his term in office with his brain sloshing around inside his skull like unset jello.
And yet, today he would be far too liberal for the MAGA crowd because he gave amnesty to “illegals”.

The MAGA crowd claim they want a man exactly like Jimmy Carter, yet they elect a buffoon like Trump. They’re not interested in someone who serves their interest, they just want to claim “my President is banging porn stars for Jesus.”

Republican presidents in my lifetime have been despicable; crooks and liars the lot of them with varying levels of dickishness: Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Bush Jr. and Trump.
Democratic presidents in my lifetime have been not that: Johnson, Obama and Biden. Pretty sure I’m not forgetting anyone.
