2024-25 offseason

The CoLOmbian president had said that they’d accept the deportees but that they wanted to transport them on Colombian planes and under Colombian supervision.

Pressly got some very big outs for Houston over the years. I hope he regains form against everyone but Houston.

I’d read where Colombia has agreed to accept the flights, but have issued a 50% tariff on U.S. goods. But I can’t keep up.

According to Bob Nightengale, the Cubs are paying 8.5 million of Pressly’s contract.

How does “Serious tweeter guy” subtract 8.5 from 14 and wind up with 3?

I didn’t realize that Pressly was a Flower Mound Marcus grad.

He didn’t follow PEDMAS

He failed basic math in school?

At the risk of demonstrating math skills on par with the serious tweeter guy, I think that puts the Astros 5 or 6 million below the tax line.

According to roster resource we are at $236M and change so we are about $4.6M under.

Ignoring Bregman for a second, you could sign someone like Grichuk or Laureano for some outfield help and still stay under, but we need a left hand bat out there. Other than Heyward and Verdugo, there aren’t any decent options. Verdugo made $8M last year so getting him for less that $4.5M could be iffy. Should be able to get Heyward for that or less though.

Verdugo sucked last year. He had a .647 OPS, .291 OBP and a .356 SLG despite playing 81 games in Yankee Stadium, which helps left-handed hitters. He shouldn’t get 4.5 million.

Yeah, we should be trying to figure out how to steer Verdugo to the Rangers or the Mariners.

Verdugo on a minor-league invite to Spring Training or a one-to-two million deal is one thing. He’s not worth trading Pressly for.

I don’t think you trade Pressly off unless you are going all in for an all star caliber player.

Unless you fully take them at their word that they want under the tax line.

Don’t know who that would be at this point. They’re not hiring Alonso after signing Walker, so only Bregman qualifies as a significant name.

I sincerely hope there’s more to moving AP than just $$. If so, our bullpen is much weaker than it was 24 hours ago.

Pressly + money to the Cubs for a 20 year old A-ball Colombian pitcher

The Cubs undervalued Bello’s bat.

Thoughts from “my friend”

A reunion with Bregman is becoming more likely by the day.

He heard the plan would be Paredes to LF. Apparently Espada made a comment about having never worked Paredes out in LF so not having first hand information whether he could do it and then people ran with the “Altuve to LF” idea.

The Astros really like Juan Bello and actively targetted him.

My thoughts: Until I see differently, I am going to be very excited about any pitcher that they like.

Edit: “my friend” said Astros and Cardinals are talking about several MLB players. Arenado, Gorman, and Fedde were mentioned by name and there are others that are not known.
