FWIW—and I have no dogs—Presley was a total professional when Hader got signed. He not only said all the right things, he seemed to believe them.
Passan is reporting that Pressly is waiving the no-trade and the deal is finalized pending physicals. No word on the return but he says that Houston will cover part of the salary.
Pressly gets another chance to close games in his walk year, good for him.
Now, to see what the Astros do with the extra payroll space. My guess would be Bregman, but they will be adding to the roster in some capacity.
The Astros sending money with him makes it sound like they fought for a better prospect, but we’ll see how it goes. The Cubs know where the Astros stand on payroll and had a lot of leverage here. I’m sure all the details will be out in a minute.
I’m very curious to see if they got back a real prospect, or just a lotto ticket or two.
I extend my best wishes to Ryan and his family. We cannot forget that he usually came up big when the lights were brightest.
Now, go get Bergman!

Juan Bello. Not sure if there’s more to the return or not

Fangraphs rated him as the Cubs #31 prospect last month.
Here’s a positive article about him from August. Juan Bello Stands Out in First Season with Pelicans | MiLB.com
He was great as a closer for sure, but he was unhittable when he first came to Houston from the Twins.
Sweet, we finally get a Colombian in the system. Just in time for Trump to deport him.
Sounds like just a lotto ticket. Not surprising, and nothing wrong with it. Clearly the biggest thing for the Astros here was clearing salary. Now all eyes on the Bregman situation.

Heyman says Pressly would get an assignment bonus to cover the tax difference between Texas and Illinois, which wouldn’t be much (especially with half the games played out of state). The cash going to CHC may just be that. No idea.
Any word yet on how much of the contract we ate? If we ate $5M that should put us down around what, $235M?? You could give Alex $25M/yr if so and stay just under the second tax bracket. Or, you don’t sign Alex and you could still sign someone like Verdugo or a bullpen arm and probably still stay under the first tax line.
The offer the Astros gave Bregman before was 6/156, if that deal gets signed, it lines up pretty well
Trump just slapped a 25% tariff on Colombia and has said he’s revoking visas for Colombians and banning entry into the U.S. in retaliation for their recent refusal to accept deportation flights.
It’s going up to 50% in a few days. I hope you necks are tea drinkers.
He’s trying to revoke my son’s citizenship, trying to deport my wife… Despite my son’s needs and linguistic preferences I’m THIS close to just saying fuck all of this and getting the fuck out of this goddamned shithole.
Joke’s on you, my IBD means I haven’t been able to drink coffee for years. At least not without… consequences.
Actually, I think I read where Columbia already caved and has agreed to accept the flights…so the tariffs are off the table.
Welcome to the resistance.
FloraBama had been rumored to Cubs as well. Hope he goes there. Would be great for Pressly’s.
