My understanding is that the team has been trying to extend Tucker since, at least, extending Yordan.
He got a $4M bonus when he signed as a draft pick and has made another $20M since being in the MLB with another $15M+ on the way in 2025. He never had any financial pressure to sign.
At his age, I can’t see him agreeing to a contract of under 8 years and probably will get 10 year offers.
That just feels like its out of the Astros depths, but I would love to be wrong.
Drafted 35th pick by Reds in 2016
Played in futures game in 2018 and 2019
Traded to Padres in 2019 in the Bauer trade
Traded to the Mariners in 2020
Made MLB debut in 2021
Claimed of waivers by Dodgers in 2024
Claimed of waivers by Yankees in 2024
Not sure what is that different from Trey Cabbage other than a better pedigree.
I’m happy about the move as he went to my kids’ HS. Comes back every year and spends a day with JV and varsity teams at a practice.
My son got to meet him at one of those practices years ago when he was in middle school and he and Taylor had a game of catch. He seems to be a great guy.
I’m sure Boras will try, but I highly doubt Alex Bregman gets an AAV of $35M from any MLB team. Teams aren’t paying $35M per year for all-star level players. MVP-caliber players, sure.
I can see Bregman getting 6 years, $180M, whether it’s from the Astros or someone else. I don’t think he gets $200M unless it’s on a 7-or-8 year contract.
